Introduction

The School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS) at Singapore Management University (SMU) is collaborating with Boston University Metropolitan College (BU MET) to offer eligible Master of IT in Business (MITB) graduates* the opportunity to pursue the BU Master of Science in Computer Information Systems (MSCIS) with a concentration in Security, and obtain up to 8 credit exemptions (out of 40 credits) towards the BU MSCIS degree. Eligible MITB graduates* who are interested in the BU MSCIS programme must apply within 5 years of the intended programme start date.

*    MITB graduates from the following tracks: Financial Services (FS); Financial Services Analytics (FA); Financial Technology & Analytics (FTA); Analytics (AT); Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Programme Structure

The Boston University (BU) Master of Science in Computer Information Systems with Concentration in Security MSCIS (the Programme) consists of 10 graduate courses (40 credits), which are taught both on campus and online by the Metropolitan College faculty at Boston University. Eligible SMU students are those that have completed the SMU Master of IT in Business (MITB) Degree in either the Analytics (AT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Financial Services (FS), Financial Services Analytics (FA) or Financial Technology & Analytics (FTA) tracks prior to starting the Programme. Programme participants can complete the required course work through on-campus or a combination of on-campus and online study at BU. For students who choose to study on campus starting in the fall or spring semester, they are admitted to and matriculate in the MSCIS programme and are also enrolled in a Graduate Certificate as part of the programme which affords students the partnership tuition rate for the first semester of study.

Admission Criteria into BU MSCIS Programme

  • SMU graduate students who have completed the SMU MITB Degree in either the Analytics (AT) or Artificial Intelligence (AI), Financial Services (FS), Financial Services Analytics (FA) or Financial Technology & Analytics (FTA) tracks within 5 years of the intended BU MSCIS Programme start date are eligible to apply.
  • Successfully complete and graduate with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 from any one of the three existing MITB tracks [Analytics (AT); Artificial Intelligence (AI); Financial Technology & Analytics (FTA)) and earlier tracks [Financial Services (FS) or Financial Services Analytics (FA)] prior to commencing BU MSCIS programme
  • Have graduated with the equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree
  • Satisfy all BU language and admission requirements

Boston University Programme Fees

Participants who start in the fall or spring semester matriculate in a MET International Graduate Certificate Programme for the first semester of study as part of the Programme and are afforded the then current MET International Graduate Certificate Tuition fee for the first semester of study.

Participants studying full time in the Boston University Summer Term as part of the Programme will be provided a grant in the amount of 15% of the then current tuition. Each such participant will pay the then current Boston University Summer Term tuition less the amount of any grant awarded, plus the then current student fees in full to Boston University according to the then current Summer Term payment dates.

For all other terms of study, each participant will pay the published fees to BU according to the then current payment schedule. BU’s then current course withdrawal and refund policy will apply.

Application Process

  1. MITB students interested in the advanced standing programme should inform SMU after grad filing at MITB has been completed
  2. SMU to provide student name, date of birth and most recent academic transcripts from MITB to BU to request for an application fee waiver code and a link to the online application portal.
  3. Student will submit application via BU’s online application portal
  4. BU to notify student of application status
