There’s no better way to end the year than with a party! On 25th November 2022, SMU’s Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme hosted its 15th anniversary by bringing its faculty members, industry partners, alumni and students together for an evening of festivities and celebration.
Over these past 15 years, MITB has nurtured more than 1500 graduates to become successful business and community leaders and held the top two spots under the QS Masters in Business Analytics Rankings in Asia for four years running. In commemorating this remarkable milestone, guests were treated to an array of activities, such as a trivia night and live performance, as attendees caught up with familiar faces and our alumni reminisced about their university days with their professors.
The celebration officially kicked off with a welcome address by Professor Pang Hwee Hwa, School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS) Dean, as he shared about MITB’s humble beginnings, the unwavering support from its partners and how it aims to continue equipping students with future-ready knowledge and skills. MITB’s enduring partnership with its donors and sponsors has enabled the programme to provide its students with various scholarships and awards to help empower and groom the next generation of technology talents.
For their generous contributions to MITB, we would like to thank our donors and sponsors, namely: Alexandra Health, DHL, Eastern Health Alliance (EHA), Fujitsu, Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), OCBC Bank, SAFTI Military Institute (SAF CE), SAS Institute, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Vingroup, United Overseas Bank (UOB), Workforce Development Authority (WDA), Mr Eddie Chau, Mr Richard Lee and Mr Haryanto Adikoesoemo.
To mark MITB’s 15-year journey, the senior management team joined Professor Pang Hwee for the cake-cutting ceremony and photo-taking session as guests came together to toast to MITB’s accomplishments. As the event progressed, there was no shortage of conversations and laughs as food and drinks were served, with SMU Sound Foundry performing throughout the night to set the mood for the rest of the evening’s activities.
There was an apparent excitement within the room as the emcee quizzed the attendees on trivia questions about MITB. Guests whispered among their groups as they put their MITB knowledge to the test, with each of the top five respondents walking away with a MITB goodie bag. Attendees also had the opportunity to interact with our students as they shared enthusiastically about their internship and capstone projects, highlighting their research findings and insights. Afterwards, attendees could vote for their favourite poster by placing stickers on the scoreboard to express their support.
To cap off the evening’s celebration, Professor Michelle Cheong, Associate Dean for SCIS Post-Graduate Professional Education, was invited to present the prizes to the top three poster presenters and top three winners of the lucky draw segment, with an Apple Watch SE as the top prize. In her closing speech, Prof Michelle Cheong thanked everyone for taking the time to commemorate MITB’s 15th anniversary and for their continuous support in helping to make a meaningful and successful 15-year journey. We want to give a huge shoutout to all our guests for their attendance and contribution to the MITB programme.
