With a background in finance and taxation , I started my career at Citibank’s North American Operations unit, handling reconciliation and transactional processes. While the role gave me a solid foundation in financial operations, I found myself increasingly curious about the technology transforming the financial services landscape. I knew I wanted to move into the fintech space but lacked the technical know-how.
That’s when I found the SMU Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme. What drew me in was how the curriculum is built for professionals like me,those from non-tech backgrounds seeking to gain digital fluency. I chose the Financial Technology & Analytics track, and it’s been the perfect stepping stone to reshape my career.
What makes MITB exceptional is its focus on real-world application. The modules are aligned with emerging industry trends from digital payments and analytics to risk management and compliance logic. The professors bring a wealth of practical knowledge, and the learning environment encourages collaboration and experimentation.
Beyond academics, the programme also offers access to professional development through workshops, case competitions, and networking events. It has helped me build a skillset that’s not only technically sound but also adaptable to evolving business needs.
