After numerous years of experience in a sales role within the banking sector, I made a strategic decision to pivot my career toward technology-focussed roles in the areas of FinTech and data analytics. In search of a master’s programme that could align with my evolving career aspirations, I discovered that the SMU Master of IT in Business programme was the perfect fit.
What sets MITB apart from other master’s programmes is its comprehensive content, diverse specialisations, and flexible curriculum. Offering specialisations in Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation and Financial Technology & Analytics and coupled with open electives, the MITB programme allows me to tailor my own learning experience. This flexibility not only deepens my understanding of chosen subjects but also empowers me to acquire essential skills such as data analysis and programming.
SMU’s interactive pedagogy and classes foster active learning, creating a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration amongst peers. MITB professors, renowned for their extensive industry expertise, are passionate about sharing and imparting knowledge. The thoughtfully crafted curriculum, which is regularly updated, ensures that the learning outcomes align with industry demands, thereby benefitting students in both their current endeavours and future career pursuits.
Beyond the classroom, MITB facilitates practical learning through internships, capstone projects, and exchange programmes. Students have access to resources that aid in developing professional skills and build networks through career development courses and networking sessions with industry professionals and alumni.
One memorable experience was participating in an overseas study mission to Jakarta, which provided valuable insights into Indonesia's dynamic tech scene. Visiting Emtek Group’s cable television studio showcased how technology transforms business models, exemplifying innovative strategies to expand market share on a global scale.
The MITB programme has a profound impact on both my professional and personal growth. Collaborating with peers from diverse backgrounds has exposed me to new viewpoints and problem-solving approaches, enhancing both my technical and soft skills. The friendships and professional relationships forged during the programme have enriched my overall experience, providing me with a network of mentors and peers I deeply value.
Despite the steep learning curve, the invaluable takeaways far surpass any difficulties faced. I highly encourage prospective students to take advantage of the wealth and quality of content that the MITB programme offers and acquire skills that will add substantial value to their future careers.
