While I was pursuing my Master of IT in Business, I was deeply engaged with a curriculum that emphasised the practical application of Fintech and Analytics. The program not only provided me with a robust theoretical foundation of Fintech but also stressed the importance of innovative solutions in real-world settings. Through collaborative projects and interactive learning, I developed a keen understanding of how emerging technologies could be applied to solve complex business challenges, which was crucial for my internship role at the Singapore Exchange (SGX).
My internship at SGX was a direct application of my SMU education. Here, I worked as a Technology Innovation Intern, focusing primarily on generative AI and blockchain technology. Besides playing a key role in implementing a blockchain project aimed at enhancing the security and efficiency of the exchange’s settlement processes, I was also given the opportunity to apply Generative AI on several use cases within the finance industry. The experiences in dealing with these emerging technologies had given me different perspectives on how we can do things more effectively and efficiently.
The transition from SMU’s theoretical learning to the hands-on application at SGX was seamless and deeply enriching. At SMU, the constant emphasis on innovation prepared me to embrace and drive technological advancements at SGX. My academic projects, often done in teams, had instilled a strong sense of collaboration and communication, which were indispensable during my internship. Engaging with professors and peers from diverse backgrounds at SMU also broadened my perspective, enabling me to approach business problems creatively and effectively.
Overall, the combination of my studies at SMU and my internship experience at SGX provided a comprehensive platform for growth and learning. The insights gained from both settings have equipped me with a unique blend of skills, thus preparing me for a potential career in the field of finance and technology. I am confident to leverage the knowledge and experiences from my internship to tackle new challenges and exploit opportunities that comes my way in the foreseeable future.
