My inclination towards research and learning new knowledge has been a consistent aspect of my academic journey. I am particularly fascinated by the intricate dynamics of how individuals interact with systems in their daily lives. In my previous role as a Research Assistant with the Future of Asian Cities Project at the Lee Kuan Yew for Innovative Cities at Singapore University of Technology and Design, I was exposed to big data sourced from various channels, including social media, business transactions, and public services.
Recognising the immense potential of big data and fueled by a desire to acquire specialised skills and knowledge in this burgeoning field, I gravitated back towards my alma mater, SMU to embark in the Master of IT in Business (Analytics) programme, known for its quality teaching and industry-relevant coursework.
SMU professors are dedicated to teaching and are willing to invest time to assist students with their questions and challenges. At SMU, there is a culture of embracing "no stupid questions" in the learning environment. The diverse backgrounds of my classmates also contribute significantly to my learning experience. Collaborating with individuals from varied paths, such as experienced civil servants, computer scientists, and economists, from different countries fosters a dynamic and enriching environment.
Post-graduation, I hope to secure a data analytics position in the private sector, preferably at a company adept at handling substantial user-generated data. I plan to eventually return to Vietnam to contribute to the science and technology sector, either in research institutions or the private sector. This endeavor will allow me to further refine my skills, applying the knowledge acquired during my academic journey.
Embarking on this path entails challenges, demanding hard work and navigating moments of uncertainty. However, the journey will propel you forward, and with perseverance, one day you'll reflect on your progress with a profound sense of accomplishment.
