I was an Internal Auditor specialising in processes, governance and business re-engineering at KPMG for close to 5 years when I decided to take the plunge into the analytics world. Back then, I had zero background in programming and had only my knowledge of exploratory analytics and business processes from various industries to supplement me. MITB, however, allowed me to be exposed to a breadth and depth of datasets, various analytics methodologies, programming languages, visualisation tools and analytical software in the market. The content of MITB was not only very rich and diverse, but it also ties back closely to real-world business cases. The projects in each module helped to gel all the heavy content nicely as they are centred on a business case where we had to shape the analytics problem, source for and assess adequacy of datasets to solve the analytics problem, keep in mind the stakeholders’ and end users’ requirements, ascertain the appropriate analytical methodologies and measurement of their effectiveness, evaluate the value-added recommendations yielded for the end user and finally visualise actionable results on an intuitive and interactive platform. The professors are very patient, encouraged us to always push the envelope and provided real-world analytics perspectives. They made the learning journey rigorous and meaningful. The MITB journey allowed me to make the career switch to the analytics landscape where I now get to apply the skills learnt and continuously build on them daily. If MITB entices you, keep in mind to be brave to make mistakes and learn along the way. Be open-minded in immersing yourself completely and seize any opportunities that come your way for the best learning outcome.
