TO BE THE NEXT LEADER

"As a Management Associate in OCBC I am required to run presentations not only to senior people at Group O&T but also to the heads of other business units. I was taken out of my comfort zone to continuously think out of the box and on my feet in order to push my ideas and projects through. MITB (FS) trained me well and gave me what I needed to do a good job"

Biography

Ravish is a problem solver both at heart and in practice. As a technology consultant in his previous job, Ravish assisted clients in improving their business processes. He recalled fondly about one project, where he had helped a company streamline a highly manual problem ticket logging process through the implementation of a new information system. The skill-sets that Ravish picked up in his job eventually resulted in a job offer at OCBC as a subject matter expert in the enterprise content and business process management team. "I used to read up on the financial industry. The pace as well as the dynamic nature of the industry had always fascinated me. As such, when the opportunity knocked, I knew I had to grab it", Ravish recounted when asked why he moved into Financial Services. At OCBC, Ravish worked on several exciting business transformation projects such as centralization and straight through processing of payments and paperless account opening system which significantly enhances customer engagement and improves staff productivity as well as the bank's cross sell capabilities.

In his second year at OCBC, Ravish figured that apart from the technical knowledge and experience that he was already well equipped with; he needed more depth to his understanding about Business & Technology Management as well as his domain knowledge in Banking and Financial Services. The Master of IT in Business (Financial Services) programme was an excellent fit for Ravish. In 2009, Ravish applied for the postgraduate programme in SMU and was admitted. "MITB (FS) was a rigorous programme and to do well, one needs the support of his employer and his family. These are crucial factors to doing well for anyone who is planning to take up the course part-time", Ravish replied, when asked how he juggled between his work at OCBC and his studies. "To extract full value from the programme, I recommend that the candidate comes with some years of work experience. This allows one to apply the knowledge learnt during the programme to his work situation and analyse how things could have been done differently to achieve better results. Also, the sharing done by peers in the class were extremely insightful", Ravish added.

In 2011, Ravish graduated from MITB (FS). Armed with a new set of skills and qualification, Ravish applied for the OCBC Management Associate as an internal candidate and was successful. "As a Management Associate in OCBC, no two days are alike. I am required to run presentations not only to senior people at Group O&T but also to the heads of other business units. I was taken out of my comfort zone to continuously think out of the box and on my feet in order to push my ideas and projects through. MITB (FS) trained me well and gave me what I needed to do a good job", Ravish shared about his experience as an OCBC Management Associate.
