I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to pursue the MITB programme at SMU.

The SMU MITB programme is highly reputed, with world-class faculty members that students come to appreciate soon after entering the programme. My peers from MITB come from a wide variety of geographies, industries, job functions and backgrounds. Classes are highly stimulating, with sharing from highly motivated peers with diverse perspectives and experiences. The MITB community is a tremendous resource of networking opportunities – students share events, competitions and career opportunities that may arise within their respective fields. Owing to MITB’s strong industry connections and successful internship programme, I came to know a handful of classmates who have made successful career switches to technology companies, as well as technology roles in banks, government sectors, and consultancy houses. Personally, I teach and research in a higher education institution in Singapore, and I am also happy to share that one of my MITB peers had successfully made the transition to join me as a colleague.

MITB provides an excellent academic experience. Its flexible curriculum covers a broad spectrum of areas that meet diverse career aspirations. Students build deep domain expertise in areas such as analytics and digital transformation. In the classroom, students experience project-based, case-based, and experiential-based curriculum. Students also learn to practise, simulate and make tough decisions based on the insights derived that drive impact and address complex, multi-dimensional problems.

MITB has strengthened my working knowledge in multiple vertical domain areas. During my course of study, I investigated new frontiers in multiple domains, and authored original research in various journals as well as conference publications alongside impressive MITB professors and peers. In 2019, I co-authored an IoT paper with Dr. Tan Hwee Pink (who subsequently joined Health Promotion Broad as a Research Director) at the IEEE 2019 International Conference on Engineering Technology and Technopreneurship. In 2020, I co-authored a financial analytics paper with Dr. Aldy Gunawan which was published in The Journal of Financial Data Science. In early 2021, I authored a FinTech outsourcing graduate paper supervised by Dr. Patrick Thng, which won second place for Best Graduate Paper Award at the IEOM 2021 11th Annual International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management. These showcased the incredible minds at MITB who are willing to challenge new frontiers with original research, and the collegial SMU environment which brought collaborative spirit to the fore.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to my professors and peers who have supported and encouraged me to further myself in this incredible journey with SMU.
