I had worked as a Data Engineer at Airwallex before enrolling in SMU. My academic journey encompasses a bachelor’s degree in materials physics and a master’s degree in operational research with data science. When deciding on a second master's degree, the SMU MITB programme stood out as my only choice. The motivation behind this decision was to transition into a role of an AI engineer in Singapore.
MITB not only imparts essential knowledge and skills in the field of Artificial Intelligence domain, including algorithms and AI/Deep Learning, but also offers elective courses covering data governance, query optimisation, and big data tools. These facets are integral for aspiring professional data engineers. The 6-month full-time internship is particularly enticing for individuals seeking practical work experience or those keen on pursuing a career in Singapore post-graduation. MITB combines cutting-edge academics with the latest industrial applications, making it the ideal choice for me.
MITB has opened a new door for me in my career choices as an AI engineer. Its comprehensive curriculum covering emerging ICT topics such as Web 3.0 fundamentals, cybersecurity technology & applications and prompt engineering for LLMs, allows me to consistently reflect on my professional experiences and stay abreast of industry best practices. The faculty, comprised of accomplished academics and industry professionals, contributes to an engaging, fruitful, and worthwhile learning process—an aspect I value most about studying at SMU.
To incoming and prospective MITB students, my advice is to stay focussed. The MITB programme offers four specialised tracks in Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Tranformation and Financial Technology & Analytics, each catering to distinct career opportunities. Having clarity on your goals is paramount to maximizing the programme's offerings.
