I’m Zheng Wanyu, an alumna of SMU Master of IT in Business (MITB) Artificial Intelligence programme, Class of 2023. My journey into the world of AI began during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic when I was working as a full-time mechanical engineer, having no previous experience in programming or AI. Despite the challenges, I was committed to acquiring a robust understanding of AI, recognising its growing importance in leading the digital technological revolution.
The MITB programme was pivotal in facilitating my career transition to a data scientist. It endowed me with the vital technical skills and insights into the application of AI in business contexts. One of the unique features of SMU teaching pedagogy is its emphasis on interactive learning and classroom engagement.
The course structure was thoughtfully designed, encompassing a comprehensive range of AI domains, from statistical modelling, deep learning to reinforcement learning. It offered ample opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems through team-based projects. The professors and teaching assistants are not only experts in their fields but are also very friendly and approachable for guidance and support.
