The School of Accountancy is pleased to announce the launch of the Data Analytics Advisory Board (DAAB) which will bring together senior representatives and executives from local, regional and international academic, business and government institutions, with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in data & analytics.

The DAAB is the first advisory board in Singapore to focus on data & analytics, representing a unique collaboration between industry leaders and accounting educators to address the skills gap in the accounting and business sectors.

The DAAB will serve as a sounding board and provide advice, feedback and critique on the School of Accountancy’s ongoing programmes, activities, strategies and future plans in the areas of data & analytics.

Mr Lee Wai Fai, Chairperson of the DAAB and also Group Chief Financial Officer of the UOB Group notes that “The SMU School of Accountancy has responded well to industry needs with the launch of the Accounting Data & Analytics programmes. However, in order to ensure that the accounting graduates are equipped with the relevant skillsets, board members - who are experts in their field, will give continuous feedback to make the coursework relevant for the students especially when they join the workforce. The proactive role and contributions of the members will demonstrate the board’s commitment to grooming a pool of accounting and finance professionals equipped with data technology skills.

The strong profile of the DAAB members in the field of data & analytics will also provide deep insights on the emerging trends, changes and development of data analytics practices relevant to the School’s programmes and activities. This will enable the School of Accountancy to adopt a nimble and industry-responsive approach in the integration of data & analytics in our strategies and programmes.

Professor Cheng Qiang, Lee Kong Chian Chair Professor and Dean of School of Accountancy also shares his vision and what he hopes the school can achieve with the DAAB. “With the rapidly changing technological developments in the accounting and finance profession, we look to the DAAB for their valuable and strategic advice, which will not only keep us abreast of industry developments and technological changes, but also help shape our programmes and ensure that our curriculum is refined according to industry needs. We also hope that through the DAAB, there will be industry collaborations, internship opportunities and more project sponsors for our SMU-X capstone courses to give our students the confidence to excel in their careers and to be future-ready. The collective recommendations from the board members will also enhance SoA’s reputation and increase the visibility of our MSA programme.
