Compared with the busy and intensive June, the end of the semester which happens in July is considered more “relaxing” for the MSA students. Moreover, the majority of the AY2021 full-timers and AY2020 part-timers have already completed their coursework. Therefore, the MSA class committee decided to organize a fun and cheerful kayaking event for the cohort in July.
Considering most of us do not have any kayaking experience, we enthusiastically signed up for the "Kayaking Expedition To Flyer" program, which is designed for the general public and even those without prior paddling experience and hosted by Singapore Canoe Federation.
The event started off with a safety briefing on all the dos and don’ts and some basic kayaking skills. After that, all the participants paired up to collect their paddles and kayaks, and got ready for the first kayaking experience! All of us were excited and could not wait to “test the waters”.
We paddled all the way from Stadium to Singapore Flyer, having great fun kayaking and at the same time enjoying the grand view of Singapore’s landmark buildings along the way. Even though the weather was a bit hot as it approached noon, the occasional winds gave us short respite from the heat.
After almost three hours of paddling, all of us were exhausted yet satisfied with what we had accomplished, from Stadium to Singapore Flyer and back on kayaks!
The event was a great success and gave the participants an enjoyable experience as well as precious memories.
