SMU Warriors Scholarship

Introduction

The SMU Warriors Scholarship (SWS) is to recognise and reward Singapore's military personnel for their contribution to our nation. The Scholarship is also intended as a partnership in talent development for the nation. It aims to equip retiring SAF military servicemen with advanced knowledge and skills to help them successfully transit from military service to a second career. Building on their illustrious career and experience in the military, the postgraduate degrees will give them an added edge to advance and succeed in their new careers.

Elibility Criteria

Only MINDEF personnel who are Singapore citizens with not less than 10 years of full time military service shall be eligible to apply for the Scholarship. The Scholarship applicant must:

  1. Either:
    1. be due to retire from MINDEF within no more than 3 years after the start of the relevant programme; or
    2. have retired from MINDEF for not more than 1 year prior to the start of the relevant programme; and
    3. in any event must be in-service at the point of application to SMU
  2. Satisfy all admission requirements imposed by the relevant postgraduate degree which may include acceptable GMAT Scores, essays, admission interviews, etc. (please check detailed requirements online)
  3. Be recommended by SAF Personnel Management Centre (PMC) and Career Transition Resource Centre (CTRC)

Key Terms and Conditions

The SMU Warriors Scholarship (SWS) is a bond-free scholarship.

Detailed Terms and Conditions will be reflected in the Scholarship Agreement to be signed between the Scholarship awardee and SMU.

The key terms and conditions include:
  • The Scholars shall be eligible to use all SMU facilities and services which are typically open to full fee-paying SMU students.
  • The Scholars are expected to apply themselves diligently to fulfill all the requirements of their respective Postgraduate degree.
  • The Scholars must complete the postgraduate degree within stipulated time, and must maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 & above. The Scholars must be good ambassadors of the Postgraduate degree, SMU and MINDEF.
  • The Scholars shall abide by all prevailing rules and regulations applicable to SMU students especially its code of conduct and discipline.
  • The Scholarship will only cover SMU's local tuition fees for the selected postgraduate degree. It does not cover any other cost such as admission fees, student fees, cost of course materials and books.
  • The Scholarship does not cover the overseas component (compulsory or optional requirement of the Postgraduate degree) such as overseas course fees, airfare, accommodation, and personal expenses.

To be eligible for the Scholarship, the MINDEF personnel must also be admitted into one of the selected postgraduate degree programme.
